A day of elation and frustration

Today was the day I had been looking ahead to for 5 years. Alicia and I had bought and paid for the Rocky Mountaineer in February, 2020. We were counting the days to our departure when Covid became the ugly truth of life around the world.

We received some of our money back but I was still looking for depth enough in both my calendar and budget to allow the trip to take place. When our good friends Scott and Bev stated that they would like to join us on this trip, we just had to make it happen, and we did.

The first day (yesterday) was spent removing ourselves from the hustle and hassle of the biggest city in Canada. We spent the night in Kamloops, B.C. Today we would leave the hills of west central British Columbia behind, and below, as we climbed for hours into the Rocky Rocky Mountains.

It ended up being, as Chuck Dickens once stated, the best of times and the worst of times. The scenery was breathtaking, everything we had expected. But Apple decided that they wanted to seize the opportunity to squeeze me for a few more cents and not allow me to take any more pictures because I had no more storage space available. The camera app wouldn’t even allow me to see what I was aiming at… the screen remained black and a dire warning returned repeatedly, telling me I had to buy more storage.
I erased pictures, I erased videos, they still said I had no storage space.
So I gave in, despite the fact that the pictures are supposed to automatically back up to a competitor’s cloud.
Then Apple wouldn’t except my password. So I changed it.
Then Apple wouldn’t accept my credit card. So I changed it.
Then Apple wouldn’t allow changes to my settings for one hour, as a form of account security.
Then, after the requisite hour, Apple accepted my money, but still said I didn’t have enough storage and demanded I delete old messages, duplicate pictures, large files, etc. but when I tried to open files to see if it was something I wanted to delete, they wouldn’t show me the picture, only the file name!
As the day progressed, I was, infrequently, granted access to my camera. However, in each case it ended up being short lived. So, for the most part, I have only a few pictures, until I borrow from Scott and Alicia, pictures enough to give you a taste of the splendor of the Rockies.
More to come….

Later…
